We believe your financial life is deeply personal. JoySpend is designed from the ground up to keep your data private and secure.
1 Introduction
JoySpend ("we", "us", or "our") is a free expense tracker app available on iOS and Android that lets you track your spending and tag emotions to every transaction. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
This policy applies to the JoySpend mobile application and the website at joyspend.tech.
2 Information We Collect
JoySpend follows a local-first model. Your data is stored on your device by default. We only receive data when you log in for multi-device sync. If you do not want to share data, use the app without login.
Data stored locally on your device
- Transaction details — amounts, categories, dates, and notes
- Joy ratings (1–5) assigned to each transaction
- Budget and recurring expense configurations
- Currency preferences and app settings
Data synced to the cloud (optional)
- If you enable cloud sync, the above data is encrypted and synced to secure cloud servers so you can access it across devices
- Your authentication credentials (email or social login) used to create a sync account
Data we do NOT collect
- We never access your bank accounts, credit cards, or financial institutions
- We do not collect your location, contacts, or browsing history
- We do not use third-party trackers, analytics, or advertising SDKs in the app
3 How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to provide and improve the JoySpend app experience:
- Display your transactions, budgets, and insights within the app
- Sync your data across devices when cloud sync is enabled
- Provide customer support when you reach out to us
🛡️ We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, marketing, or any purpose other than delivering the app's core functionality to you.
4 Data Storage & Security
Security is foundational to how JoySpend is built:
- All data is stored locally on your device by default — no account required
- Cloud-synced data is encrypted at rest and in transit using AES-256 encryption
- Cloud infrastructure is hosted on Google Cloud Platform, which complies with industry-leading security standards
- We do not store your data on any servers unless you explicitly enable cloud sync
5 Data Sharing
🚫 JoySpend will never sell, rent, or trade your personal data or spending habits to advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties. Period.
We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- With cloud infrastructure providers (Google Cloud) solely to deliver the sync service — they do not have access to your decrypted data
- If required by law, regulation, or valid legal process
6 Your Rights & Control
You are in full control of your data at all times:
- Delete your account — You can permanently delete your cloud account and all associated data from within the app at any time
- Use without an account — JoySpend works fully offline without creating any account. Your data never leaves your device
7 Children's Privacy
JoySpend is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided data through our app, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
